The Northborough Police Department will be conducting routine inspections of licensed businesses permitted to sell or serve alcohol. The purpose of these inspections and compliance checks is to ensure that all license holders are in compliance with Chapter 138 of the Massachusetts General Laws, as well as regulations set forth by the Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission (ABCC) and the Town of Northborough.
In addition to these inspections, the department will also conduct Minimum Legal Drinking Age compliance checks at licensed establishments in Northborough. As part of these compliance checks, the Northborough Police Department may utilize underage operatives who will attempt to purchase alcohol. These checks are intended to ensure that alcohol is not being sold to individuals under the age of 21 and that establishments are properly verifying identification prior to completing a sale.
The ABCC requires that police departments planning to conduct compliance checks provide public notice through local media. This announcement serves as public notice that compliance checks will take place in the Town of Northborough during the 2026 calendar year.
