The Northborough Police Department offers a Safe Exchange Zone to provide a secure location for the public to conduct in-person transactions for sales arranged online through Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, or other similar platforms. It also serves as a safe place for custody exchanges or other necessary in-person meetings.
This designated area is located in the front parking lot of the police station and is monitored by video surveillance 24/7 to enhance safety and deter criminal activity. The Safe Exchange Zone is well-lit and accessible to the public at any time.
While police personnel will not actively monitor exchanges, the presence of surveillance and proximity to the station help provide a safer environment for all parties.
We encourage residents to use this service to help protect themselves and reduce the risks associated with meeting unknown individuals. As a reminder if residents chose not to use the provided Safe Exchange Zone, when exchanging online purchases, etc. residents should be cautious of meeting with strangers, meet in a public place, and only make an exchange in well lit areas or before sunset.
Any questions regarding the Northborough Safe Exchange Zone location please contact the department at (508) 393-1515.
