The Northborough Police Department offers a waste medication kiosk for residents to safely dispose of unwanted prescription medications. This service is offered by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection.
Residents can come to the Northborough Police station 24/7 to drop off unwanted, unused, or unneeded prescription medications. The department will safely dispose of these medications so they will never fall into the wrong hands.
The drop box is located in the department lobby. Needles / sharps are not accepted here. Northborough residents can dispose of sharps at the Health & Human Services Department at Town Hall during regular business hours.
This program offers residents a safe way to dispose of addictive medications. According to the 2019 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, in 2019 alone an estimated 9.7 million people misused prescription pain relievers, 4.9 million people misused prescription stimulants and 5.9 million people misused prescription tranquilizers or sedatives.
